VETERINARY TECHNICIAN & RECEPTIONIST SEMINAR

This seminar is designed for those pet industry professionals seeking assistance in understanding behaviors in both dogs and cats during their visit at the veterinary office. This seminar will offer insight into reading canine and feline body language to enable safe handling and stress reduction in the veterinary clinic. Common behavior problems in dogs and cats will also be highlighted to facilitate discussions with concerned pet owners.
Reading Dog & Cat Body Language and Safe Handling:
  • Dogs and cats speak with their bodies and they always “tell” us how they are feeling with this language.  Anyone who works with companion animals should be able to read their body language in order to assess their emotional state.  This information will ensure that the animals are properly and safely handled to reduce fear and stress.

Stress Reduction in the Veterinary Clinic:
  • The veterinary clinic can be a very scary stressful place for the animals. The presence of other animals, the strange smells, and scary experiences they have there can intensify their fear.   It is incumbent upon veterinary staff to recognize what things affect the emotional state of their patients in order to be humane medical professionals.

Common Behavior Problems in Dogs & Cats:
  • Many pet owners experience problematic behavior with their cats and dogs that can break down the human-animal bond and lead to relinquishment and even euthanasia.  Veterinarians and technicians are often the first people that pet owners go to for guidance yet very few veterinary professionals have had formal training in behavior. This lecture will discuss the most common behavior problems in dogs and cats and provide recommended techniques to provide advice to pet owners to implement.
